SARAH's COMMENTS ON RUNNING IN THE MARATHON
My name is Sarah Comeau, and I'm a 32 year old teacher. I work for Millbury Public Schools and live in the Worcester area. My whole life I have been an athlete, and I competed at Worcester State University. I played soccer and ran indoor and outdoor track.
In my years at Worcester State, my soccer team competed at nationals, and I qualified for nationals in track as a member of the 4x100 meter relay team. Having always been a power athlete and sprinter, graduating college was difficult because I lost that sense of competition. I transitioned to becoming a distance runner and for the last 10 years, I have competed in many 5ks, 10ks, and half marathons.
When the pandemic started in 2019, I found myself with so much time on my hands, and this is when I really got into high-volume running. I set a goal to run 750 miles in 2020, which I exceeded and then set a new goal to run 1000 miles in 2021. These goals made me physically and mentally stronger, and I feel really prepared to take on the new challenge of running Boston in 2022!
I’m excited to run for a great cause and accomplish one of my lifelong goals. I am especially grateful for the opportunity to run in this year’s marathon because it is the 50 year celebration of the first official field of women runners. We have come so far, and it means so much to me to get to be a part of this!
